Occupational Therapy for Children

Graduate 2022 Position

Happy Dots is looking for enthusiastic Graduate Occupational Therapists to join their expanding and highly reputable private practice based in Newcastle. We have multiple positions available across our 2 of clinics- Cardiff & Medowie, commencing in 2022. We are offering the opportunity to train, learn & observe prior to officially graduating so you can hit the ground running upon registration in 2022.

The caseload includes children with Sensory Processing Disorders, ADHD, ASD, learning difficulties, motor coordination challenges, and other developmental, learning, and behavioural difficulties. You will visit children in clinic as well as their home, pre-school, and school environments.

This is a position for a highly motivated therapist who demonstrates ability to work independently as well as within a team. The selected candidate will have excellent time management skills, along with oral and written communication skills. Experience in working with children is desirable but not essential. The therapist will be expected to independently assess and treat children from 2 years to 18 years.

Key Selection Criteria include:

  • Recognised degree in Occupational Therapy commencing 2022.
  • Willingness to be on the road as well as in clinic
  • Professional membership/registration with OT Australia and/or AHPRA
  • Current working with children check
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Specific experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders & Sensory Processing Disorders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with therapists, parents, teachers and children
  • Current driver’s license

Quarterly Alignment Meetings- Team culture and satisfaction is a high priority at Happy Dots. On a quarterly basis each team member meets formally with the Director & Manager to establish individual goals surrounding your wellbeing, career progression and alignment with our Happy Dots core values. You will develop a plan and action steps required to advance towards your goals and you are supported to reach your goals through fortnightly informal ‘catch ups’ between each alignment meeting.

Clinical Supervision- Therapists meet with their senior supervisor on a weekly basis to discuss caseloads and gain advice for areas that are challenging. You will be guided to problem solve clinical questions related to your clients and provided with opportunities to upskill within a diverse range of clinical areas. This will be conducted via Zoom.

Case Conference Meetings- Each fortnight our therapists all meet together to discuss a particular case that everyone can learn from. It is a chance to ask any clinical questions you might have in a open environment to get the direction you need. This will be conducted via zoom.

Lunch & Learn sessions- Every fortnight our therapists will meet for a 1 hour professional development session on a particular topic such as a specific learning disorder or particular skill such as hand-eye coordination. This is an opportunity to learn something new in your week, and also contributes towards your CPD hours for the year.

In house Professional Development- Every quarter we invite an outside professional to present to our team on a range of different topics. These speakers and topics are scheduled at the beginning of the year and include topics such as Trauma & Attachment, Sensory Processing Disorder, Parenting a child with special needs, and more.

Team Culture Days- Every year we host a team culture day to align everyone with our values, set goals moving forward and have a heap of fun. Whether it be trampolining, go carts or ten pin bowling, you will be sure to come away from the day feeling energised!

Career Progression / Pathways- At Happy Dots your first year is an opportunity to settle, learn and grow into your new position. Moving into future years, you will have the opportunity to transition into our pathways program whether it be clinical specialisation, become a part of our leadership team, take on supervisory duties, and/or contribute to research.
